MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Family, friends, and peers of Brady Lee gathered on Thursday to honor and remember him at Lucy Beckham High School in Mount Pleasant.
Lee passed away when he was 16 years old, in the summer of 2023, from carbon monoxide poisoning. Lee’s legacy also lives on through his organ donation.
“Through his death, we are raising awareness of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning,” said Kristen Lee, Brady’s mother. “It can happen to anyone, in our home on vacation, in paradise and in our cars. Please, please learn from his innocent mistake.”
A tree has been planted in Lee’s honor alongside a plaque at the high school, where he was a student in the class of 2025.
“He was a beautiful kid inside and outside. He was a calming presence. This tree reminds me of that, that calm beauty that he represented. Just excited that he’ll be here for generations to come,” said Kevin Lee, Brady Lee’s father.
Classmates also shared how Lee’s kindness, joyfulness, and caring lives on.
Lee’s childhood best friend, Jack Lamonica, says he consistently works to keep Lee’s legacy alive. “I just want them to remember the kind of person he was. His kindness, how genuine he was. He was a friend you could always trust. He never had a bad word to say. I want people to remember him as someone who made an impact,” Lamonica said.
Through Lee’s donation, two people received the gift of sight, and many others’ lives were enhanced.
“We knew Brady was such a sweet, caring kid. What better way to honor his legacy, and allow him to live on in other people,” said Kevin Lee.
April is National Donate Life Month, encouraging people to register as organ donors.
