Ringing in Donate Life Month

We Are Sharing Hope SC, South Carolina’s federally designated nonprofit organ and tissue recovery organization, partnered with Donate Life South Carolina (DLSC) to host a flag-raising ceremony with donor families and transplant recipients in honor of National Blue & Green Day. This annual observance took place on April 10 at 1:08 p.m. as a reminder that one person can save up to eight lives through donation.

The event highlights the importance of donation while celebrating the generosity and lasting impact of those who said yes, their families, and the lives transformed through transplantation. Kevin Shwedo, Executive Director of the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) raised the flag and talked to attendees about the powerful impact of donation.

“Today is an opportunity for us to reflect and recognize the generosity of South Carolinians and their families who made the selfless decision to save a life often during a tragic time,” said Krystal Cau, Director of Communications at We are Sharing Hope SC. “We are grateful for our partnership with the SCDMV as we work to educate our community on the impact and importance of donation.”

In 2025, 1,026 South Carolina families said “yes” to giving the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

● 332 organ donor heroes

● 772 organs were transplanted

● 702 lives saved through organ donation

● 400 tissue donor heroes

● 30,000 lives were enhanced through tissue donation

“These aren’t just numbers, these are people who have made a profound impact and touched the lives of so many families in our community,” said Cau. “Behind every donation is a story of compassion, courage and selflessness that continues to inspire and uplift others every single day.”
