Kelly Mohr of Myrtle Beach tragically lost her daughter, Kendall, on Oct. 26, 2022.
But due to Kendall’s generous gift of life, Kelly gained a family.
Kendall was an organ donor, and her heart beats in the chest of Emily Koon, who was awaiting a transplant at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston when Kendall passed.
Kelly and Emily met and became fast friends. They now walk together at charity run/walk events that raise money for organizations supporting organ donations.
They’ll take to the street again on March 29 for Sharing Hope’s 20th Annual Race for Life in Folly Beach, walking the 5K as Team Kendall Beau.
“It’s been two years and four months since Kendall left us. She was wonderful, funny, a loyal friend, very accomplished, liked to have a good time,” Kelly said of Kendall, who died at age 21 while in her junior year at the College of Charleston.
Kelly said her daughter’s donations saved multiple lives. She spoke on the phone to the man who received Kendall’s liver. But she’s developed a special bond with the woman who carries her daughter’s heart.
“It was important to me, and luckily Emily wanted to meet us, too,” Kelly said. “We do a lot together.”
