CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — We Are Sharing Hope SC, South Carolina’s federally designated nonprofit organ and tissue recovery organization, will be holding a flag raising ceremony Friday, honoring donor families and transplant recipients.
This event, held on National Blue & Green Day aims to recognize the donors who have given the gift of life to those in critical need.
April is National Donate Life Month, and in that month, National Blue & Green Day is observed each year with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor.
At the flag raising event, Kevin Shwedo, Director of the SCDMV, will raise the flag at 1:08 p.m. The time holds a special significance and according to organizers it is meant to serve as a reminder that one person can save up to eight lives through donation.
In attendance will be Mattie Porter, Miss South Carolina Teen Volunteer 2026, staff with We Are Sharing Hope South Carolina and donor families and transplant recipients.
This event was planned in partnership with Donate Life South Carolina, and the event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the flag being raised at 1:08 p.m. at We Are Sharing Hope SC in Charleston.
