“Caroline was truly one of a kind. From the day she was born, she was full of life, curiosity, and joy,” shared Caroline’s family.
“As she grew up, that bright spirit never changed. She was incredibly intelligent and intuitive—one of those people who seemed to understand things beyond her years. Whether in preschool, high school, or at Clemson University, people were always amazed by how smart she was. What made Caroline so special, though, wasn’t just her intelligence; it was the way she paired it with kindness, humility, and a genuine love for others.
Caroline loved learning. She was a voracious reader from the time she could hold a book, always searching for the next story, the next idea, the next thing to discover. Her curiosity extended far beyond books. She loved exploring hidden places, hiking mountain trails, walking on the beach, listening to music, and finding beauty in the world around her. She found joy in life’s simple moments and never lost her sense of wonder.
She dreamed of a future in healthcare because she genuinely wanted to help people. As a Genetics major at Clemson University, she worked tirelessly toward that goal, earning Dean’s List honors while preparing for a career in medicine. Looking back, it’s clear that helping others wasn’t just something Caroline hoped to do—it was simply who she was.
That’s why it feels so fitting that her greatest legacy is the gift she gave through organ donation. Years before we ever imagined losing her, Caroline made the decision to register as an organ donor while getting her permanent driver’s license. She simply told us, ‘If I’m gone, then I don’t need any of it anymore. It might as well go to someone who can use it.’ That was Caroline—compassionate, practical, and always thinking about others.
In the midst of our loss, organ donation became part of Caroline’s story—and part of ours. Through her gifts, she is still helping people, still changing lives, and still making the difference she always wanted to make. Knowing that her legacy lives on in others has brought us comfort, hope, and a sense of purpose during the most difficult time of our lives.
Our message to others about donation is simple: have the conversation. You never know how important that decision may become one day. Caroline’s legacy reminds us that even in our hardest moments, there can be hope. We are incredibly proud of her and will forever be grateful that her compassion continues to live on through the lives she saved.”
