Donor Hero

“My father, Danny Martin, passed away on October 29th, 2024. His decision to become a tissue and cornea donor was a final, selfless act that embodied how he lived: always giving, caring, and thinking of others,” shared Ashley, daughter of donor hero Danny.   

“My father was deeply passionate about many things in life. He lived by the motto, “Life is too short,” which he embodied through his compassionate and outgoing nature. He loved spending time at the beach, riding his Harley-Davidson, attending concerts and working in his yard. A dedicated sports fan, he cheered for the Clemson Tigers and the Pittsburgh Steelers and was an avid follower of NASCAR. He delighted in sharing meals of fried pork chops, steak, and chicken bog, often accompanied by laughter and stories.   

His humor and ambition made him a joy to be around, and he had a unique ability to connect with others. Known affectionately as “Dan the Man” or “Kenny Rogers,” Danny was a talented automotive salesman who earned the Salesman of the Year Award multiple times, a testament to his exceptional hard work and dedication. As a Southern Baptist, Danny’s faith guided his life and interactions with others.  

Through his gift of tissue and cornea donation, he not only healed and enhanced the lives of many but also restored sight to two individuals. By donating his corneas, he brought light into the lives of two people who were once in darkness. His legacy lives on in our hearts and in the lives of those he helped through his generous gift of life. I will forever be proud of him and his selfless decision.”
