Hunter Rice

Donor Hero

“Hunter lived life with a deep love for the outdoors and the people around them. Whether he was fishing, hunting, four-wheeling or driving lifted trucks, Hunter felt most at home outside. He loved animals, especially his three dogs, whom he treated like family, and his many chickens, a passion he cared for with pride and joy.” shared Hunter’s mom, Shannon.

Hunter was an identical twin and shared a special bond with his brother. He was always protective, always checking in and always putting others before himself. Becoming a father to his son, Waylon Hunter, was one of the happiest moments of his life, and he was incredibly excited for the future they would share together.

Hunter also faced a difficult battle with addiction. He fought hard but tragically lost his life to overdose. After learning that he had no brain activity, we knew Hunter would want something good to come from such heartbreak. That was when we discovered he had already made the selfless decision to register as an organ donor on his driver’s license.

Through donation, Hunter’s legacy became one of hope and healing. The support and compassion shown to us by We Are Sharing Hope SC throughout the process brought comfort during the darkest time of our lives.

Today, we continue to pray for the recipients whose lives were touched by Hunter’s gift. Though his loss is felt deeply every single day, his generosity and love continue to live on through the lives he helped save.”
