Megan Relyea

Donor Hero

“My daughter, Megan, was only 29 years old when she suffered a fatal epileptic seizure,” shared donor mom Karla.

“I drove through the night from Florida to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to reach her. When I arrived at the hospital, the staff asked if Megan was a registered organ donor, as she did not yet have her South Carolina license. I immediately said yes because I knew that was something she would want.

Hours later, we discovered that Megan had registered as an organ donor on her Florida license when she graduated from high school. The hospital staff hugged me and confirmed that I was right. I knew my daughter’s giving nature, and I was determined to honor her wish to give the gift of life.

Megan had a deep compassion for every person and animal she encountered. She was on track to graduate from the Animal Behavioral College, where she was studying to become a dog trainer. In addition to her studies, she was a talented dancer, having performed for 12 years with the Florida Dance Workshop and Company. She had the honor of performing at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida, and had the opportunity to dance in New York City.

Megan’s decision to donate her organs was a life-changing act of kindness. Her kidneys and heart have given a new lease of life to three individuals. I have received heartfelt letters from all three of her recipients and have had the privilege of meeting one of them in person. We Are Sharing Hope SC was my rock throughout this journey, and I am deeply grateful for their unwavering support.”
