Rudy Morgan

Donor Hero

Rudy registered as an organ, eye and tissue donor when he got his driver’s license at 16 years old. 24 years later, his selfless decision saved five lives as he donated his heart, both kidneys and lungs. Rudy’s parents, Ben and Susan, are now advocating for the donation mission and encourage others to say “yes” in honor of their son.

“Time goes by, and we are still carrying the pain and sorrow of losing our son,” shared donor dad, Ben. “We are comforted that though Rudy is gone, his lungs still breathe life and his heart still beats. I hope that the five men who received Rudy’s organs are doing well and are filled with gratitude and zest for life. When we heard the news that he had saved five lives, it felt like the sun breaking through the clouds on a cold and dreary day. It warmed our souls and gave us hope amid our grief.”

In 2022, Susan and Ben traveled to San Diego, California, to participate in the Transplant Games of America with Team South Carolina. “I couldn’t believe it because Rudy was born in San Diego. It felt like a full-circle moment for us. It was almost as grand as if we were going to the Olympics,” shared Susan. “You never know what road God is going to take you down, and we weren’t expecting this to be part of our story. It has been so hard for us, but I’m so thankful that Rudy was a donor. There is so much comfort in knowing that he was able to save lives, and the donation process is simply amazing”.
