Donor Hero

“Thomas was always going out of his way to help others,” said his grandfather, Horace, about donor hero Thomas.   

“He cared about others and their safety, willing to drop whatever he was doing to help. Often, we would hear him leaving the house in the middle of the night on his way to drive someone home who had been out drinking. He loved children and could always be found playing with the kids. He was very into watching sports and playing video games. He loved holidays and getting the family all together to celebrate.   

We never talked much about organ donation, but after his accident, I knew right away that Thomas would want to be a donor. I am a registered organ donor and fully support the donation mission, but I wanted to first discuss the decision with his sister and grandmother. We all agreed that he would like to be a donor because he always did everything he could to help others. Later, we learned that both of his kidneys and his liver had been transplanted into three different individuals, giving them the gift of life. We have been told that all his recipients are doing well, and I believe that a part of Thomas is still living through each of them.”
