Donor Hero

“Our son, Timothy, was involved in a terrible car accident on October 17, 2020. He tragically passed away at just 19 years old on Thursday, October 22, 2020,” shared donor mom Joan. 

“Timothy registered as an organ donor when he obtained his driver’s license. I remember him asking me what being an organ donor meant, and I explained that his organs could be given to someone in need, potentially saving their life after he passed away. He responded, “That’s pretty cool,” and agreed. 

I have worked in the healthcare system for over 20 years and witnessed both sides of the donation process. I have always been a registered organ donor myself and have tried to teach my children to be thoughtful, kind, and to help others whenever possible. Thanks to Tim’s choice to be an organ donor, he saved two lives by donating his heart and liver. 

Tim was the youngest of four children and a devoted uncle to his nephews and nieces. He cherished spending quality time with his family and his beloved dog, Bella, who adored him just as much. Tim enjoyed playing Fortnite, watching Dragon Ball Z, and binge-watching The Office. His taste in music was diverse, ranging from oldies to the latest hits. In June, shortly before his passing, he had earned his GED and was diligently searching for a promising career. Tim was known for his sense of humor and his charming personality. 

Tim had gone on a few mission trips and had dedicated his life to Christ. Although he sometimes struggled with his faith, it gives me hope to know that we will be reunited in heaven one day. 

While I haven’t had the chance to meet Timothy’s liver recipient, I have been in contact with his heart recipient. We’ve developed a close bond, often referring to each other as “sis.” She is a remarkable person who frequently checks in on us, prays for us, and expresses her gratitude for the second chance at life she has been given. We communicate regularly, and I look forward to the day we can finally meet.”
