Zoey Holland

Donor Hero

“We were in line at the DMV when Zoey asked me what checking the box to be an organ, eye and tissue donor meant. I explained it to her, and she said ‘Okay, cool’ and then checked the box with no hesitation. I told her that it was a special gift to give, and I was proud of her for making that decision,” shared donor mom, Kristina, about her daughter Zoey.

“Zoey’s heart gravitated toward the vulnerable, especially animals in need. Her love for animals was not just a passion, but a calling, and she spent a lot of her time rescuing strays, supporting shelters and offering comfort to creatures without a voice. She kept cat food and bowls in her car to stop to feed stray and feral cats wherever she went. Her passion for helping animals and others was contagious.

Zoey found joy in storytelling, losing herself in books and movies that sparked her imagination. She always read the book before going to see the movie and was a collector of paper-back books. She loved to ‘treasure-hunt’ at thrift stores and enjoyed music and concerts with her boyfriend, who was a musician. Gaming also provided her with a sense of connection and community.

Zoey’s Christian faith was a source of strength throughout her life while she battled anxiety and depression. In March 2025, Zoey took her own life, but her kindness and passion left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched through organ, eye and tissue donation.

When I was approached by We Are Sharing Hope SC, it was the first bright moment amid sadness and grief, the opportunity for Zoey to help others and bring some purpose to the situation. She could live on through others physically and spiritually. Even in death, here was a chance for my child to live on. I am so grateful for that.

If you or someone you know is facing mental struggles, please seek support. You are not alone. Tomorrow needs you.”
