Living Kidney Donor

“I donated a kidney for my uncle through the National Kidney Registry voucher program,” shared Elizabeth.  

“I’m not a direct match for my uncle, so the voucher program allows me to donate to someone for whom I am a match and allowed my uncle to be matched with someone in return. One year later, I am healthier than I was before donation, and I’ve had the incredible privilege of seeing the impact organ donation has on recipients and their loved ones.  

My message to everyone is that you don’t have to be a direct match to change someone’s life. There is a robust network of support for living donors; from childcare, travel assistance, help covering lost wages, etc. What may be a brief disruption in your own life can be a permanent, life-changing gift for others. If I had 10 kidneys, I would still donate 9 every time.”
