Laura Robinson
Living Kidney Donor
“In 1996, I became a living kidney donor to my dad, Michael Boyd.” shared Laura.
“The first two weeks after the transplant, things were fantastic. Unfortunately, he passed away not long after. Even though we didn’t have him long after, I loved seeing him walk the halls of the hospital after his transplant. We got a little more time with him, and for that, I am forever thankful.
Throughout my life, I have seen family members struggle with dialysis, getting infections and becoming hospitalized. I became a dialysis technician so that I could learn more about disease processes and assist those undergoing dialysis. In doing so, I made so many close relationships with patients and their families. I then worked for We Are Sharing Hope SC, formerly known as LifePoint, as part of the upstate team as a Tissue Recovery Coordinator. I have since remained very passionate about donor heroes, their family members, recipients and the professional team members who guide the processes for each.
I hope that everyone would sign up as a registered organ, eye and tissue donor. I have experienced the pain of loss, and I have also witnessed pure joy at holding your loved one’s recipient in your arms, knowing that their sacrifice gave someone else a second chance at life. Donation makes true miracles happen!”
