Angela Washington

Heart Recipient

“It was May of 2021, and my body began to feel different. I couldn’t walk from my bedroom to my kitchen without feeling like I had run a marathon,” shared Angela Washington, heart recipient.

“I went to the doctor, and it took them two weeks to discover my failing heart. They told me that my heart was operating on less than 20%. I was put on a new medicine and tried a defibrillator for three months, but none of it worked. I went to MUSC for a second opinion and explained I had severe pain and swelling in my stomach. By November, my heart was operating at less than 14%. I was too sick to go home from the hospital and was finally told I would need a heart transplant. On December 3rd, I was listed on the transplant list. After four days, it was my lucky day. I got the call, and they said, “We found you a heart.”
