Brittany Dickerson

Kidney Recipient

“I was diagnosed with hereditary kidney disease at the age of 12, and for most of my life, I knew a kidney transplant would one day be part of my journey. In 2021, when I began experiencing kidney failure, I started the transplant evaluation process and relied on dialysis to keep me alive. Through it all, I trusted God and held onto the belief that one day I would receive my call,” shared Brittany.

“On January 2nd, 2026, while sitting in dialysis, that call finally came. A transplant surgeon from MUSC Lancaster told me they might have a kidney for me. I accepted a pediatric kidney and experienced one of the most humbling and life-changing moments of my life as I underwent surgery.

Later, I learned that my donor was a 17-month-old baby boy. That realization changed me forever. It gave me a profound understanding of the true gift of organ donation and the legacy it creates. Because of one family’s selfless decision during an unimaginable time, I was given a second chance at life.

Every day, I carry immense gratitude for my donor, his family and the blessing God has given me. I will never take this gift for granted. I am committed to honoring the life of that precious child by living fully, loving deeply and ensuring his legacy continues through the life I now have the privilege to live.”
