Everett German

Kidney Recipient

“My name is Everett German, and I am blessed to be a father, a husband, a friend and a grateful kidney recipient,” shared Everett.

“I consider myself to be someone who has always lived life with passion. Whether it’s broadcasting sporting events in the Lowcountry, being the voice of the College of Charleston Cougars, spending time with family and friends, or giving back to the community I love, I have embraced every moment I’ve been given in this life.

However, one evening 19 years ago, my life took an unexpected turn. What started with blurry vision and an eye doctor appointment led to a stage four kidney disease diagnosis. Being in my thirties, I never expected to be in desperate need of a kidney transplant.

Faced with the harsh reality of the kidney transplant waiting list, I began to share my story with anyone who would listen, hoping to inspire others to get tested, even if they weren’t a match for me. Miraculously, my story created a ripple effect and inspired multiple altruistic donations. Both my sisters, eager to help, were tested and confirmed as perfect matches. On June 8, 2011, six months after having a baby, my youngest sister provided me with my life-saving kidney transplant.

I am so thankful for the gift of my new kidney and do my best to exercise, drink plenty of water, take my medications, and of course, share my story. This gift of life has enabled me to remain a loving and dedicated father to my children. I encourage everyone to consider registering as an organ donor. Your decision could transform someone’s life.”
