Mary Blau

Cornea Recipient

“At the age of 25, I started to have a hard time completing my basic duties at work due to my vision. I made an appointment with my optometrist, and he immediately informed me that the only form of treatment available for me was a cornea transplant,” shared Mary.

“According to the doctor, I was legally blind in one eye. Months later, I was gifted with the miracle of sight thanks to a donor hero. Before my transplant, I was facing the reality of not being able to read, work or even drive. Fast forward to my world being transformed thanks to the selfless act of my cornea donor. I regained my vision, ability to work and my freedom to explore the world.

I believe in the mission and the work being done by We Are Sharing Hope SC. Through continued education and awareness about donation, I hope that donation will help others. As a cornea recipient, I feel compelled to share my story, as it is crucial to the overall donation mission.

Volunteering is my way of helping move the mission forward and bringing the gift of sight to light.  I hope my story will inspire you to consider the incredible impact you can make by saying “yes” to organ, eye and tissue donation.”
