Mike Robinson
Liver Recipient
“I went from vice president of a huge pharmaceutical company to someone who couldn’t go down the steps and get the mail. My only hope was a transplant,” shared Mike, a liver recipient.
“Getting to the day when I received my transplant was a tremendous struggle because liver disease is all-consuming. It takes and takes and takes until your spirit is broken and your body is decimated. The highly visible disease causes your skin and eyes to turn yellow, attracting many stares and judgments. This could all be erased with the gift of a new liver.
On May 8, 2012, my wife Kitty helped me from a wheelchair into the transplant center after receiving a precious call that there was a donor’s liver that could save my life. Somewhere, a family mourned the loss of a loved one as I lay in a hospital bed, clinging to my wife’s hand, waiting for the gift of a new life and the chance to be normal again. A strong, healthy liver could allow me to see my 87-year-old father again and enjoy visits with my two daughters and young grandson.
I am alive because a stranger said “yes” to giving people like me a second chance at life.”
