Pete Schwob
Lung Recipient
“As a child, I acquired a rare lung disease which led to me needing a double lung transplant 37 years later,” shared Pete Schwob.
“In November of 2005, I received two lungs at the University of Florida from a donor hero who was a great match for me. I have contact with her sons and daughter, and I even sent them my swimming medal, which I won at the 2010 Transplant Games of America, in honor of their mother.
Because of my donor hero, I was able to see my daughters graduate from high school and college, be at their weddings, and meet my three grandchildren. I want others who need a transplant to experience these types of life events.
I am motivated every day by the 21 people who die each day in the United States while waiting for a life-saving transplant. It would be nice to see the number closer to zero, and increasing the number of registered donors will help. I hope that by volunteering my time and sharing my story, I can help save more lives through organ donation.”
